[Food] Edmonton Restaurants & Personal Reviews

some  restaurants i want to try.. or like to go..there are few, but not many are good in this city! i listed most of good ones i like.. but some i might missed out.. or can’t remember rite now.. hehe.. : ) maybe i’ll add them in later.

I noticed that not too many ppl i know know about good places to eat. they just complain about the fact that edmonton is small and can’t find good place to eat.. that’s not true! if you compare with bigger cities and cities near ocean.. of course.. those places have alot more nice restaurants… and eatery. maybe cos i stayed here longer than them.. long enough i think.. – _-;; soon it would be 8 years! jeeez that’s crazy! another thing is some of my friends love to eat out and they are real eaters! so i had more chance to go to those good restaurants..

 maybe lots of them on the list you  know already, but for who doesn’t know i wanted to post on my blog to help out their dining – out experiences while they are in Edmonton. Hey, i know it’s boring here, and so cold. so why not try to do sth.. at least make your life better in this small city? Rite? anyway, hope whoever likes to go eat.. or needs recommendation get some ideas from this listing.. : ) ! 4 food LOVERs! CHEERS!

(P.S: it took me long time T_T .. bloody long time to write this down and organize it.. so make USE of it!!! PLZ!! PPl!!! listen up!…. oh btw.. if you want me to add sth.. or you know somewhere good i don’t know yet, you can always : ) put comment underneath~ i’ll add them in later on!)

  • Yokozuna University Campus or Southside location – This place is pretty good. i like their bento.. and other little stuffs comes with it.

<KOREAN RESTAURANTs>

  • Bul-Go-Gi House 8813 – 92st. – this place is little bit hard to get to, but lots of westerns like it.. if you are looking for authentic korean dishes, visit here. It’s suitable for those ppl who aren’t Korean. Of course, Koreans like this place too.. and they had long term biz in Edmonton like 20years i think.. : ) You won’t fail here.
  • GAYA 11147 87 Avenue – mmmmm.. i love their soups! A+ recommended.. it’s in U of A campus.. and small place. but i think thinking of Korean restaurants in Edmonton.. this place is quite good.
  • GinSeng Restaurant  9261-34av – good place to go for Buffet.. if you are HUNGRY! i think $20/person BBQ buffet.
  • Kyoto Sushi 63av 99st. – actually, this is Japanese Restaurant.. but owned by Korean. They also have some Korean stuffs.. such as Jja-Jang-Myun. their spicy roll is Great! A++ Recommended.
  • LEE HOUSE 7904 104 Street – Try their Kam-poong-gi, or Spicy Pork Bone Soup (special item)
  • The Wheel’s Behind Farmer’s Market on Strathcona – this is nite time biz place for nite time snackers. after clubbing or if you simply like their food u can go till 4AM!!! isn’t that great?!! not too many places are open that late. maybe little hard to find at 1st.. but it’s just another block north to Farmer’s market. anyway, this place is real cheap .. all the food price includ. GST. UDon is really nice, you can ask for some rice after you finish the noodle and mix the rice with the soup! and enjoy Kimchi!! only $5! this place is owned by really nice KOREAN guy!!! he’s the best and very very friendly. oh and their pizza is great deal too and tasty. 2 slices are $3 only. and their beer is $3bucks too per bottle. good deal rite? try their BBQ or Kimchi Pizza(not always availalbe.. ask for it, if you want to  try, if he has it, he’ll give you.). Try pizza with his home made sauces (hot sauce, and ranch sauce.. very nice nice nice!!!!!!!!) and one more, their steamed dumpling is awesome!

<CHINESE/MALAYSIAN/THAI/VIETNAMESE RESTAURANTs>

  • Asian Grill 107av 97st – Great place for HOTPOT. clean and big spaces.. and have lots of foods.. you pay around $15/person for weekend. more ppl go, you can have both BBQ and hotpot, they also have Schuanese(?) spicy hotpot too. so try it. oh, this is important.. i love their desert buffet.. got great Taro Root drink! nice yummmmy.
  • BangKok I can’t remember the exact address.. kindda hard to find this place.. since it’s in Residential area.. but if i have a car, i would go there often! small HOT-POT restaurant but got so much stuffs they make by hands..!!!!! tastes so goooooood, try it : ) and i know it’s near Kingsway mall!
  • GOLDEN BIRD Restaurant 10544 97st – This place is greatest Vietnamese Noodle place. and their Deep-fried Spring Roll is AWESOME!!! A++
  • GOOD BUDDY Restaurant 2059 111St. – Heard this place is great.. but unfortunately i didn’t get to try this place.. whenever i go to Southside.. i end up trying other foods i like.. and i tried b4..
  • MIRAMA Dining & Lounge 9431 Jasper Av. – if you like DIMSUM, go to THIS ONE! A++ cheaper and more tasty, and more items to choose from.. go there b/w 11~12:30.. otherwise it’s kindda harder to find dishes you like to have. So many ppl and Big restaurant.. especially on the wkend so much crowd there.  : ) so you might have to wait for your table : ) but it totally worth it.
  • Pagolac Restaurant Ltd. 10566 97St. – This place.. you can ask them for the spicy soup.. and other noodle soups are pretty good. Better place than Pho Hoa.
  • Thai Orchid Restaurant 4009 Gateway BLVD. – hey, go here with couple ppl! it’s the best deal that way. got real nice dishes and Green Curry w/ Coconut Rice is the best item i like there! fantastic taste. dishes seems smaller than other places but it really worths it and if you order couple dishes, you will feel full! it’a amazing : ) at 1st i didn’t know this place.. cos it was hard to notice. but real nice place.. Right across from Toy’s R Us.
  • Tropicana 6004 Calgary Tr. (60Av 104St.) – One of best & popular Malaysian cusine in Town. Try their bread stuff(forgot how they call it), it’s real good. and bbq skewer and other things! nice nice!
  • Ban Thai Restaurant 15726 100Av. http://www.discoveredmonton.com/Edmonton/RestaurantsBars/Thai/2-8538.html -It’s on west side near Jasper Place i remember. If you want authentic atmosphere of Thai and authentic taste, i really recommend this place. if you here on the weeken, try to get reservation. it’s small place, but whoever knows this place love this place! very busy : )

<Italian Restaurants>

  • Old Spaghetti Factory Bourbon Street in W.E.M – don’t go to downtown old spaghetti.. it isn’t that good like the one ine W.E.M. anyway, their meat loaf served at the beginning is really good.. i love that with Garlic butter on it! oh and their simple meatball spaghetti is good too, but you gotta try sth more than that.. and nice thing is soup or salad comes with the regular pasta orders.. so ceasar’s salad is always good choice, but if you like salad dressing, try blue cheese dressing on it. i love it.
  • Olive Garden Italian Restaurant 4110 Gateway Blvd. or 10121- 171St. http://www.olivegarden.com/ – Personally i heard Gateway Location is much much better. This location is my, best, most fav. Pasta Restaurant! try their italian Magrita! you pay little bit more, but you can’t try this kind of Magrita anywhere else in Edmonton, and of course it tastes better than those strawberry ones! btw, strawberry one is very nice too.They serve pasta starting with lots of salad in big bowl (nice!) and cheese garlic bread (i think it was.. anyway it tasted awesome! once i even asked to get more.. since it’s free.. and on purpose.. left all of them.. hahaha.. and asked them to pack it to go.. of course.. they didn’t really like it.. but it worths it. and it depends on your server too.. go for nice ones : ) and they’ll give you i think. not guaranteed…. well, but i got it rite?!) oh oh,, and all their pasta (that’s the main thing here) are A+++++++++++++++++++++++ taste! best pasta i ever tried!! if you have room and more $$$, try their appetizer menu too. personally i liked the mashroom one.. can’t remember name. but darn it’s that good too!
  • Sorrentino’s Bistro Bar 10612 82Av. – This place was OK.. as i remember. and i think there is one more location in Downtown, 100st 102Av. It’s near by Japanese Village (hm.. that reminds me i forgot this place.. well cos i don’t really like this one so much.. not my fav. anymore. but you still can go try.. oh, one recommendation from here is CHOP CHOP maki!). I heard this place is pretty good, but since i haven’t tried it, i can’t put much comments for it. maybe it’s bit pricey.. i’m guessing hm.. !?
  • ONE IN 109ST around 89Av i think. – somehow everytime i forget the name of this restaurant.. but it’s really good. i love this restaurant. they got patio, so during summer i used to go there alot and have pasta and enjoy the sunshine. i would sit there and order tea (they got variety of good tea selection!) and look out to 109st. so relaxing. ppl joggin, nice sports car driving by, some ppl walk by. it’s great place to sit and enjoy. oh and their white cream/wine pastas are good and others as well. if you want to have Italian pasta dine-in experience for affordable price this is the place to be. go there on Monday or Tuesday. it’s Pasta FRENZY days. and all the pastas are around $7 includ. their real nice bread and salad. and other times.. you can try those menu items for half-order. still enough for one person. if you are having that for lunch or if you aren’t tooooooo hungry for dinner. well, tell u the truth, if you are hungry, just have more bread rolls. very nice. you won’t dislike it. oh and their pasta with spinach is really good too : ) try lots of things.. and appetizer.. mussel was wonderful toooooooooo! yummmmy! hungry T_T
